Greetings all,
So the holidays are upon us and to be honest cash is tight. I've decided to go back to my template style art in an effort to build up some quick cash for Christmas. See I have three brothers(two of which have a girlfriend) and my parents to buy something for and I am on an insanely strict budget($437.00 a month to pay for rent and food). As such, I've been limited to a measly $40.00 to split amongst the 7 of them and to be honest, it's almost not worth even trying. For the past two years I have been in this situation and it's very heart breaking for myself when Christmas morning arrives and I can't give anything worthwhile in return.
The best Christmas I had in a long time was when I did the "100 in 100" event back in 2007. That event not only got great gifts for all my family members but also helped with some much needed PC upgrades. This time around I won't be doing anything on such a large scale as that, but I would like to give back this year.
As such, I've been creating more templates. So far most of you have seen my Athletic male template(used in pieces such as Lunar Ray and Overdrive) and my Thin male template(used in pieces such as Megasect and Aquila Hawk). However what you guys have yet to see is the new Bulky template(I'll be posting a piece using this build sometime today).
Some of you may not know what template style artwork is and I feel like I should explain it a bit.
Template style art is when someone takes a basic blank outline and adds details, colors, and finishing touches to make that blank into someone's character. This type of thing has been done all across the Internet and is most famously done with the Bruce Timm style templates which are based on characters from the hit DCAU series.
Now other people use their own templates and this is what I now do. Originally I used the Timm inspired ones but I had made my own set based on the artistic style found in the DCUO concept art by Jim Lee and Wildstorm Productions. Unfortunately I lost those templates in a saving accident and after coming to terms with that loss I decided to expand my own style based on the amazing styles of Jose Lopez and Sean "Cheeks" Galloway.
The main problem with template art is the pose restrictions. Once the template is formed that pose is what will be used in every piece. Because of this a lot of originality is lost and many people decide against getting a piece done. Similarly the pose restrictions also prevent a large amount of payment from being charged. Some people circumvent this restriction by offering subtle pose variations and/or complete turnarounds. The turnarounds make for a much better use of this style of art because the end result can be used as references for future artwork.
Personally, my capabilities are not on the same level as other artists when it comes to developing unique artwork and as such I'm forced to limited what I can do. That being said the templates I have created thus far are completely unique to myself and as such give me great pride when I am commissioned.
Ok, enough of the ramblings. Let me break down how to request and pay for my style of Template art.
-------------------------
How to commission me:
- Send me a note here or an email via "compound@live.ca" detailing your character either with a detailed description outlining his basic build(thin, athletic, or bulky), his color scheme, and any minor details such as hair style, cape length, etc, etc. Alternatively you can send an image that depicts your character from head to toe(this is my preferred option).
- After all the details have been sent, a payment of $10.00us must be made via paypal to my email address "compound@live.ca". Once payment has been received you will be placed into a queue that works off of the old saying, "First come, first served." The actual queue will have no size limitations. Work on your commission will begin immediately after payment is received and your turn comes around in the queue.
- The pose and layout that is featured in my "TAS" style template art is the only pose/layout that is offered. That being said, there are currently three build types that you may select from(Thin male, Athletic male, and Bulky male).
- Please note that at this time I will not be accepting animalistic, alien, nor robotic characters due to the sheer amount of detail work that would be required. This includes any type of character outside the simple human form. Animalistic masks or helmets, robotic armor, and simplistic alien features will be considered but if something is too complicated I will let you know ahead of time in my response to your first message.
